Motherwell captain Paul Quinn has been given community service after being convicted of a nightclub assault. The 22-year-old was found guilty of attacking a man at a Glasgow club in August last year.
The player, from Wishaw, Lanarkshire, was given 150 hours of community service when he appeared for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff court on Tuesday.
Sheriff Sean Murphy said he reduced the punishment on account of the charity work that Quinn carries out for his club.
His solicitor Bobby McCormack said Quinn, who maintains his innocence, would now face disciplinary action from Motherwell bosses.
He told the court: "I understand there is to be disciplinary action to be taken by the chairman.
"Clearly this matter has brought adverse publicity to the club and to himself."
He described Quinn, who is engaged, as a "family" man from a good background.
Quinn was handed the captaincy following the death of Phil O'Donnell in December last year.
He had to sit out the last five games of the season with a broken jaw following an incident at a nightclub in April.
