Premier League - Transfer Talk: Chelsea prowl

Eurosport - Tue, 01 Jul 09:38:00 2008

Emmanuel Adebayor is quite good, like a younger Kanu only not as slow and not as outrageously skilful. But he is only quite good.

FOOTBALL adebayor arsenal togo - 0

He has had one great season and one-and-a-half mediocre campaigns since he joined Arsenal in January 2006.

He is also prone to occasional hissy-fits both on and off the pitch, as fans of Monaco and Togo will testify.

Yet somehow the world of Premier League hype has deemed him worth more than legendary Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, who even in a "disappointing" season still managed to score 20 goals in 24 matches.

And now Chelsea are understood to have entered the race for the £30 million (yes, that's 30) African hitman as they look for a replacement for the Inter-bound Didier Drogba, although Arsenal would rather flog Adebayor to Milan or Barca than their London rivals.

"Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal," he said. "But it's up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I'll leave.

"Milan are a big club but they are not playing in the Champions League.

"Barcelona have made a good financial offer."

Charming.

Still, with Gunners target Obafemi Martins understood to have a release clause of £13 million, Arsene Wenger will have a speedy replacement and almost enough money to sign Liverpool target Gareth Barry, who The Sun reckons will only be allowed to leave for a whopping £18 million.

The kitty generated by Barry's sale - Aston Villa will not accept a player-swap - will help fund a bid for Fraizer Campbell, who Hull City also want to take on a second season's loan from Manchester United.

The Tigers' attempts to bring their squad up to something approaching Premier League scratch could be about to take another early blow, with Werder Bremen reported to have entered the race to sign nippy PSG full-back Bernard Mendy.

The erstwhile France international has, however, expressed a preference for a return to England, where he spent a season on loan at Bolton six years ago.

But then again, he has probably never spent time in Hull.

Banik Ostrava, meanwhile, have responded with bemusement to reports that Fulham have entered the race for Czech striker Vaclav Sverkos, with a spokesman for the club saying he was "surprised" at the rumour and that the only "specific" interest has been from Russia.

  3. Don`t compare Adebayor with kanu, Adebayor is far better than kanu and there football style is not similar, in the modern world of the game, adebayor is in the market while kanu is best in asia market for now as l can define him "two lefted leg player".

  4. Who does this guy think he is look at somebody dat wenger picked up from nowhere and now check out he wants 2 earn 120 000 pounds a week. Is he mad? If u ask me i would say dat d @#$% is offing dat is is crazy he should be left 2 leave he is not even dat good he scores as as many as he misses if not less so he should go. Buy Podolski or Villa or Huntelaar or Martins or Gomez or Etoo there are many people better than him. Eto'o scored 20 goals in 24 games last season Huntelaar 87 goals in 97 games 4 Ajax they r all better than dat adebayor

  5. I believe a player can never make a club but if Adebayor feels he can, then let him be.

  6. Wait a minute, Arsen Wenger is not the owner of Arsenal FC; he is an employee as do the players. He does not make policy for the club, rather the board does. Wage cap for which people continue blaming Wenger is no fault of his. The Board members make this wage policy and there is nothing Wenger can do, because he is like the players too. If he talked the board to compromising the policy and they said no, what else can he do rather than relay same to players and continue. Yes Arsenal players deserve better pay, but why not two or three seasons in the top flight first. Adebayor has just score 30 goals last season, this season he is demanding pay increase. He thinks he will reach or surpass that feat if he leaves Arsenal for another club. He should take for food of though the Henry, Edu, ets cases and rethink.

  10. I don't believe that Chelsea want to sign adebayor for 30 million pounds. To me that sounds like a joke.
Instead it would be more realistic linking Eto with a 30 million pound price tag to Chelsea!
And eto would be a much bigger hit at Stamford Bridge then Adebayor will ever be!

Have u ever heard about Aberdeen? No? Not surprised. He broke Rangers dominance of Scottish football to lead Aberdeen to 3 Scottish titles, 4 Scottish cups, 1 League Cup and 1 European Cup Winners’ Cup beating Real Madrid . So there u are.
And of course the money issue... Unlike many other clubs we earned it, so bugger off. If u r so fussy about the money think where ur stadium comes from.

  20. please professor wenger is high time you call a meeting with the players to let them know what your ambitions for the club is like....this will enable you know those players who are in the club solely for financial benefit....all we need for our tittle ambitions are patriots who are ready to bleed for the club and fans the likes of fabregas...not money bangers like adegreedy..and co ...you should sale is likes and get us patriot in form of batistuta of florentina.....after all nobody is paying the fans for mourning our under achievement.....adebayor is not a complete strike like torres, santa cruz and co... he should be refunding his wages for all the piont blank misses.....after all his scoring ratio is 8/1, that is he needs eight chances to score a goal...compare to torre 3/2
