Southampton have confirmed the release of Inigo Idiakez, Alexander Ostlund, Darren Powell, Jermaine Wright and Mario Licka.The five first-team players were all out of contract at the end of June and, as expected, have not been offered new terms as Saints cut costs ahead of the new season.

"We are very grateful to them for their service and wish them well," said Saints plc chairman Rupert Lowe.

Striker Cedric Baseya, who Saints had hoped to keep hold of, has instead joined French side Lille on a Bosman free transfer.

"Everyone tried to contact him to persuade him to stay but we wish him well there," added Lowe. "I think he owes us a lot for the way we have developed him and given him great technical training but he has opted to sign for Lille."

Young winger Josh Dutton-Black has also been released.
