Wednesday duo to share captaincy

Wed 02 Jul, 11:30 AM

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has named both Steve Watson and Richard Wood in a dual captaincy role ahead of the new Championship season.Experienced defender Watson has been appointed club captain while local-born centre-half Wood will wear the skipper's armband on the field.

"It's a dual role, I'm looking at two aspects of the captaincy," Laws told the Owls' official website.

"Richard Wood will be team captain out on the pitch, he has the authority and he is a player who is so enthusiastic.

"We want a club captain as well and on the senior side I have given that to Steve Watson.

"Steve will be in control of the PR side off the field. There is a lot of involvement regarding captaincies in the modern day and I'm delighted both players have said yes."

  1. I think that is a very interesting move. I don't follow Sheffield Wednesday, but I think it is a very clever move of appointing two captains. When you have experienced players in the team who cannot get a game, that is the sort of captaincy that can work wonders! Hope it works well!
