Southampton have confirmed the release of Inigo Idiakez, Alexander Ostlund, Darren Powell, Jermaine Wright and Mario Licka.
The five first-team players were all out of contract at the end of June and, as expected, have not been offered new terms as Saints cut costs ahead of the new season.
"We are very grateful to them for their service and wish them well," said Saints plc chairman Rupert Lowe.
Striker Cedric Baseya, who Saints had hoped to keep hold of, has instead joined French side Lille on a Bosman free transfer.
"Everyone tried to contact him to persuade him to stay but we wish him well there," added Lowe. "I think he owes us a lot for the way we have developed him and given him great technical training but he has opted to sign for Lille."
Young winger Josh Dutton-Black has also been released.

It don't look good do it?

it's alright Lowe getting rid of players, but surely he's going to get some more in? Have you seen the defence? We only have four and some of them i've never heard of! What is Lowe's game? does he want this football club to compete or is he just trying to make a fast buck before the board get rid of him again?
its about time someone stepped in and stop this madness, being a supporter all my life im never going to a saints match again, wot with last seasons performance and selling the best players they got which was not any good anyway going on last seasons performance lowe cant blame anyone eles but himself maybe its him who should sack anyway hope the saints fans would follow my footsteps and stop flogging a dead horse and support some other southerners
