Luton's dreadful summer continued after a 3-1 home defeat to Port Vale on the opening day of the new League Two season.

Having seen their club handed a 30-point penalty even before a ball was kicked at Kenilworh Road, fans made their feelings clear before kick-off.

But their vocal support failed to inspire Mick Harford's side who went behind to a Louis Dodds goal after 25 minutes.

Sam Parkin equalised 10 minutes later, only for Vale to take control of the game - and ultimately all three points - thanks to goals from Rob Taylor and Marc Richards.

Rotherham, starting the season on minus 17 due to their own financial problems, fared better as they beat Lincoln 1-0 thanks to Reuben Reid's strike (44).

Bournemouth began with same penalty as Rotherham but are now just 16 points in the red after a 1-1 draw with Gillingham - Darren Anderton (42) putting the Cherries ahead before Gary Mulligan's last-minute equaliser.

Andy Bishop (43) gave Bury a 1-0 home victory over Brentford while Grimsby and Rochdale played out a goalless draw.
