Ipswich have announced they are on the verge of signing Heerenveen defender Pim Balkestein.The 21-year-old featured for the Tractor Boys reserves against Tottenham while on trial at Portman Road toward the end of last season and impressed enough for the club to pursue their interest further.

But although an agreement has been reached with the Dutch outfit, chief executive Derek Bowden revealed personal terms have yet to be agreed with the player.

"Terms have been agreed between the clubs and it's now a case of agreeing personal terms with the player," Bowden told the club's official website.
