The victory in Berlin was the Scot's first match win since last August, after a difficult year during which he suffered with depression.

"I'm back," Dott told The Daily Record. "This means a lot to me and it has been well documented that I've had a tough year.

"When you're down you wonder if you're going to come back but I have and it's a major step in the right direction.

"I was surprised to win by the margin I did. You don't expect to beat a player of Shaun's quality 6-1.

"I loved it here, all the players did", added Dott, who registered a first frame break of 113.

"It's the best snooker crowd I have played in front of and the Tempodrom arena was different class, as is the World Series."

Stephen Maguire, beaten 5-3 by Murphy in the semi-finals, revealed that he had played with a suspected broken rib.

"I was playing badminton, hoping to get more fit, and fell," he said. "I fear the rib might be cracked."

Maguire will have an X-ray of the injury later this week.
