Two quickfire goals from Erik Nevland and Danny Murphy saw Fulham claim a 2-0 win over League One outfit Southend at Roots Hall. The Cottagers took control in the second half after the sides went in goalless at half-time.
David Healy hit the post and Murphy drew a good save from Shrimpers goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall before they took the lead.
A long ball was sent into the Southend box from the left which Nevland and Mildenhall both challenged for, with the Cottagers striker winning the race to bundle the ball into the net.
Despite Mildenhall's protests that he had been impeded, the goal was allowed to stand.
Shortly after, Murphy beat the goalkeeper with a low, angled drive inside the box as the Premier League side took control.
Paul Furlong was just wide with a diving header and Adam Barrett hit the woodwork as the League One side looked for a way back but Fulham held firm.
