New Port Vale striker Steve Thompson has set his sights on scoring the goals to fire the Valiants back into League One.The 19-year-old, who signed from Middlesbrough on Wednesday, impressed during two reserve matches while on trial at Vale Park and is now keen to help the club bounce back from their relegation.

He told the club's official website: "I came here and played in a couple of games and found everybody friendly here. It is a good set-up and Vale are a big club with ambitions to go back up. Hopefully I can get amongst the goals and help them do that.

"It's a nice big pitch and hopefully I will be able to find some space and get the chance to show the fans what I can do and help the club climb up the table."
