Steve Watson has hailed manager Brian Laws' decision to install defender Richard Wood as Sheffield Wednesday team captain.Wood, 23, sidelined for over three months last season after dislocating a shoulder, will skipper the Owls on the field, while veteran midfielder Watson has succeeded Lee Bullen as club captain.
Watson told the club's official website: "It's a wise decision to make Woody the skipper on the pitch. He's been groomed for the job and he's exactly the kind of bloke you'd want to captain your side.
"I'm really pleased for him and I'll be glad to help him out next season.
"A club captain is usually one of the more experienced players who helps out the younger lads, sorts out tickets and days out for the boys. He is like a middleman between the staff and the players.
"At my age I don't need an armband on the pitch to have an influence, but I will be there to help Woody along."
