The 22-year-old left-back joined Wolves from Celtic back in 2006 as part of the deal that took Lee Naylor to Glasgow, but after being unable to break into Mick McCarthy's first-team plans last season he enjoyed a three-month loan spell at League One outfit Southend.

After signing a two-year deal at Pittodrie, Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey described the move as a good deal for themselves and the player.

"He is at an age where he really needs to be playing regular football, hence his loan move to Southend for the second half of last season where he helped them into the League One play-offs," Moxey told the Championship club's official website.

"There have been other clubs interested since he was made available and we are pleased to have now reached agreement with Aberdeen. It is a good deal for both Wolves and for Charlie himself, and he leaves Molineux with our best wishes for the future."

Mulgrew made a total of nine appearances for Wolves, with two as a substitute.
