Simon Davies has issued a warning to his Fulham team-mates not to underestimate Liverpool on Saturday if some of their star players are rested. The Reds face a Champions League semi-final against Chelsea three days later and boss Rafael Benitez could rest the likes of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres against Fulham.
Benitez fielded a weakened team for the same fixture last season and the Cottagers took advantage by scraping a narrow victory that ultimately kept them in the Premier League.
The Spaniard's decision infuriated other clubs embroiled in the relegation battle and Fulham will be hoping a similar scenario unfolds on Saturday.
But Davies, who set up both goals in last weekend's 2-0 victory over Reading, warned his team-mates not to underestimate even an understrength Liverpool.
"It's a boost when you see the opposition's teamsheet and they have left out their star names," said Davies, who started the 1-0 victory last May.
"Funnily enough we're in a similar situation to last year. Liverpool came down here with a weakened team and we managed to nick the win to stay in the league.
"But whoever Liverpool put out it will be a tough match - they proved that in the Premier League at Arsenal a couple of weeks ago."
Relegation would cause upheaval at Craven Cottage with the players, manager Roy Hodgson and the board facing uncertain futures.
Canadian defender Paul Stalteri is one player who is undecided on what will happen should Fulham be condemned to the Championship.
But should Fulham survive, he hopes to make his loan deal from Tottenham permanent.
"I'd like to stay. If we do stay up and Tottenham and Fulham can agree a fee, then it would be a great situation to stay on," he said.
"I joined in January and felt part of the squad from the first game I played.
"It's great to be playing first team matches again. I'd make the same decision again in a heartbeat.
"I was in and out of the squad at Spurs and it's a different situation when you know you're playing week-in week-out.
"You get your rhythm going and confidence back. I feel much sharper than I did two months ago."
