Premier League - Milan call off Adebayor hunt

Eurosport - Thu, 17 Jul 09:25:00 2008

Milan have called off their bid to sign Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor and Chelsea's Andriy Shevchenko following the purchase of Ronaldinho from Barcelona.

Adebayor has also been linked with Barca, while Shevchenko is expected to stay in London despite repeated overtures from his former club Milan.

The Rossoneri were also one of several clubs linked with Chelsea and Ivory Coast hit-man Didier Drogba, but no formal bid was made.

"The market for Milan is closed with Ronaldinho," Rossoneri chief executive Adriano Galliani said after signing the Brazilian for 21 million euros plus add-ons.

"As far as arrivals are concerned, we are finished, absolutely."

Galliani added that the likes of Croatia defender Dario Simic and teenage striker Alberto Paloschi could be sold.

Togo forward Adebayor hit 30 goals last season and wants to quit Arsenal, aware that he can triple his wage to more than £100,000 a week.

Shevchenko has struggled to settle since joining Chelsea for £30 million two seasons ago, but new boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has backed the Ukrainian to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

  6. I refuse to listen to anyone say a F%@king word about 'limited resources' at french/african side arsenal. The same club that posted a mid year profit more than any other in the prem. What a @#$%. Maybe Roy Keane might be able to share storys with poor Wenger on 'limited resources'. They have money, lots and lots, its there recruiting department thats @#$%. Who sells sells sells when you could buy buy buy. They are headed back for another year of the highest hopes with no results.

  7. Why is Arsenal managing on a small budget year in year out! they are supposed to be a challenging club not a selling club. i think arsenal will suffer again, no trophies for at least 5 yrs. all because of a small stadium that is slavery.

  8. If you think Arsene Wenger is a moron, then you truly know nothing about football. I'm not an Arsenal supporter, but I still have great respect for that man. What he is able to produce year after year is nothing short of amazing given the resourses he is able to use. I think you need to do some research before you take shots at someone the caliber of Wenger.

  13. i say let him go i mean i like adebayour but i never would have expected him to make such statements... we still have RVP, walcott and eduardo will be back sooner then expected , also carlos vela and ramsey. and we have bendtner so we also have a good header in atack... i mean if he wants to go and wenger can get 20mil euros + let him go and buy a centre back... maybe this year we won't be so unlucky... no matter what i fully trust Wenger's
decisions, i mean i was very very sad when henry left but the gunners did awesome... great play:D henry will be the best 4ever 4 me but i trust wenger now more then ever and while he's around i don't care if the team doesn't win a thing a love the way they play and for me it's enough:)

  15. ADEBAYOR CAN GO FOR ALL I CARE WE HAVE CLASS IN OUR RANKS SO HE WONT BE MISSED!!!!WHY DOES HE WANT AS MUCH AS HENEY WHEN HE AINT EVEN CLOSE TO HOW THE KING PLAYED!!!!!

  16. F*USA: You are very right, but i think that we MUST keep Ade at Arsenal at least for this season. Who is going to score goals for us if not him?? we should buy a replacement for Ade now, keep him until next year, and then sell him. Otherwise, we won't have any Big Guns up front this season. But that's only my opinion.

  17. I think Inter Milan want to buy Adebayor as well so he still might leave arsenal besides im not surprised people want to buy him. Hes quite good and also Arsenal havent won any major cups for the past 2 seasons so i can understand if Adebayor wants to go to a different club.( GO RED DEVILS!!)

  19. jako1922 : I am quite sure that "BUT having said that he's pure class and none can deny his natural talent and extinct in front of goal" was referring to Eto'o.
