Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill is still awaiting a response from Liverpool after holding further talks with Gareth Barry.Liverpool have spent the summer chasing Barry, but have been unable to agree a fee with Villa for the midfielder.
O'Neill confirmed last week that he had sent his Premier League rivals a letter to outline the club's demands for their captain.
Barry has admitted his desire to join Liverpool, but returned to training with Villa on Wednesday as the situation remained unchanged.
The England international held further talks with O'Neill on Thursday and the Villa boss has confirmed there has been no progress on the matter.
"I've spoken to him this week and he reiterated a desire to join Liverpool," O'Neill told the club's official website.
"So the situation remains unchanged, we're still waiting to hear back from Liverpool."
Barry will miss Villa's Intertoto Cup tie with Danish club Odense BK on Saturday after picking up a foot injury upon his return to training.

Let your unhappy player go you bog trotter!!
That's the best of it though - he's not worth anything near £18 million. If Villa get that amount for him, they'll piss themselves laughing.
do yo really think that barry is worthy of the 18m? he's good..but not that good.
Yaaawwwnn......
So the Barry saga continues. He's been a great servant to the club, always worked hard and finally has been recognised at international level, as a deserved first pick in midfield. Well done to Martin O'Neill for sticking to his guns and holding out for the right right price - I'm sure Doug Ellis would approve, and Randy Lerner too for that matter. Let's hope this is all concluded satisfactorily for all concerned. The player wants to move on, and who can blame hime? Yes, we have a better team, better manager and arguably a better administration than we have had for years, but time is ticking for GB and athletes want honours, and to be fair we have fallen short in that department for far too long. So let's wish Gareth luck, keep on backing Martin O'Neill and keep our fingers crossed that there are a few more Agbonlahors lurking in the academy. And let's face it, you can do a lot more with £18 million to play with than invest in journeymen that have passed through the gates over the last few years.
Up the Villa!
