Wycombe captain David McCracken has praised young winger Matty Phillips after his winner in the pre-season friendly against Maidenhead.A fine 79th-minute run and finish from the winger gave Wycombe a 1-0 victory on Wednesday and catapulted Phillips into the Adams Park spotlight.
"He looks really mature for his age," McCracken told the club's official website. "He wants to take that chance and step up.
"Last year he showed a bit and he got his chance in the team and he looks as though he wants to improve on it."
After the departure of Argentine Sergio Torres, McCracken believes the incentive is there for the youth graduate to grab the opportunity.
He added: "It is up to players like Matty to come in and show they are capable of filling that place."
