Wrexham defender Carl Tremarco has handed boss Brian Little a huge boost by agreeing a new two-year deal despite the club's relegation. With relegation to the Blue Square Premier confirmed there had been suggestions that Tremarco was set to leave the Racecourse Ground for local rivals Chester.

The 22-year-old believes the Dragons are well equipped to challenge for an instant return to the Football League.

He told the club's official website: "I'm happy to be staying. In the time I've been here I've enjoyed it. I've said before I enjoy working for the gaffer and while there was other interest, I think we will have a great chance of getting back up.

"I'm confident we can do well and finish in the top five at least and be pushing for that automatic place."

He added: "There were a few other clubs interested. Chester did offer me a deal, but after playing for Wrexham I just couldn't see myself going there. Rotherham also wanted me to move over to Yorkshire, but I didn't really fancy that."
