Premier League - Transfer Talk: Look at the stars...

Eurosport - Sun, 22 Jun 23:46:00 2008

Could Chris Martin be the key player in Cristiano Ronaldo's potential move to Real Madrid? Probably not, but it's worth investigating.

2008 Manchester United-Newcastle United Cristiano Ronaldo Shay Given - 0

Is Cristiano Ronaldo a fan of Coldplay? It's difficult to say for certain, but as this entire page is all about wild speculation based on little or no fact whatsoever, let's say that he is. Let's say that "Yellow" changed a young Cristiano's life.

Not sure where is this all going? Well, Twisted Logic was the name of the tour of Coldplay's third album, X and Y. It is also the thought process behind Ronaldo's claim that Manchester United should allow him to leave for Real Madrid as a "reward for his loyalty," as claimed in the News of the World. Go figure that one out, Hawking.

Meanwhile, United also risk losing Carlos Tevez, who is apparently upset that the club haven't attempted to turn his two-year loan into a permanent deal. He's in a "quandary", according to a "source close to the player." Don't worry; that's just a posh way of saying he's in a rhubarb of a pickle of a jam.

Pity the fool who has an office next to Manchester City boss Mark Hughes this weekend; that phone has been in a state of almost constant use. Everton are keen on City's young midfielder Michael Johnson, while Portsmouth are still keen on club captain Richard Dunne and have offered the burly defender a whopping £55,000 to reunite him with former City colleague Sylvain Distin.

Meanwhile, Cardiff could be set to test Hughes with a £3m bid for young Welsh starlet Ched Evans, and Serie A clubs Torino and Udinese are showing interest in Valeri Bojinov , who missed all-but two matches of last season with a knee injury. Plenty head-scratching ahead for Hughes.

Apparently, Aston Villa have told Liverpool that dropping out of the race to sign David Bentley from Blackburn might help the Reds' bid to sign their own captain, Gareth Barry. More twists than a bag of pretzels in this one.

Hull are in the Premier League. You'd be forgiven for forgetting that. It certainly seems to have slipped manager Phil Brown's mind, which is why he might be ready to spunk £3m on Rangers striker Kris Boyd and a similar amount on unwanted Spurs centre-back Anthony Gardner. "The lad's got a proven Premier League pedigree," Brown said of Gardner. He must have a long memory; in the last 18 months, appearances from Gardner have been as rare as rocking-horse poo.

Bolton's quest to sign the worst strikers in Premier League continues. Keen to extend the series that brought us fat Brazilian Mario Jardel, immobile Mexican Jared Borgetti and honest-but-rubbish Henrik Pedersen, Gary Megson is chasing Lyon's headless chicken Milan Baros.

Finally, Hamburg defender Guy Demel obviously doesn't pay much attention to happenings in the Premier League. If he did, he wouldn't claim to be "flattered" by a link to Newcastle .

  4. Ronaldo deserves to be a Galactico. in life there are things we cannot change. we cant change the fact that Real Madrid are the Most powerful magnets of Europe. if they got Zidane, Becks, Figo (from rivals Barca) and brazillian Ronaldo.......wat can stop them from getting the Man U Ronnie.

  5. i'm a man utd fan. how's about ronaldo going to madrid for 80m pounds and sergio ramos as part exchange? then we sign samuel eto and robinho to fill the striker and winger positions we so desperately need?

i have no beef with ronaldo. he's good. he's very good. he can be egotistitcal, petulant and spoilt. he can go to madrid. man utd will march on.

  8. I Think we should sell him cause for a 2 season pony 80 mill is excellent bussiness, but i dont think we should sell him to Real, that would undermind everything fergie has said about real thinking they can have any player in the world they want.
As a die hard united fan i think we would easly be able to move and to better places without him.
My vote.. Sell him to barcalona if he wants to go to spain, and stick 2 fingers up at real madrid..

  11. madbymdnite - it is definitely the WAY he has chosen to go about things rather than his actual decision to go. If he had turned round and said how much he loves United for what they have done for him but that he had dreamed of playing for Madrid all his life then everyone would have been more accepting. This isn't about wanting to stifle ambition, this is a reaction to his underhanded and sadly disrespectful methods of trying to push for a transfer and the way he has treated United and their supporters

  12. Lately i see many of my fellow United supporters venting their anger n hatred at CR.The question i wanna ask is this due to the fact that he is leaving for Real or the WAY he went about it.Personally for me if he did it gentlemanly n with respect to the club n fans i would have given my blessings bcos i understand we all have our dreams etc.but instead the way he chose has kinda left a bad taste in the mouth.hence the anger n frustration.

  14. Ronaldo can go. I'm a die hard United fan and I want him to go. I liked to watch United win; I could care less how Ronaldo would play as long as we won. He was great to watch but he was also a little baby and I don't want players like that in my team. We've sold Becks, Van Nistelrooy, and Heinze to Madrid and haven't missed a beat. Sell Ronaldo, get at least 30 million for him, along with Sneijder, Robinho, Ramos, or Diarra (from what I'm hearing), then go and buy a winger like Bentley, Van Der Vaart, Arshavin, Joaquin, Quaresma, whoever. There are plenty of other players to replace him, although not as good, yet whoever replaces him, along with other players coming in, will make up for his absence. We need a right back, so Ramos would be perfect, and I don't know if there is a better right back than him. We would need a winger. Nani looked good at times this year, Giggs is still around, and if they're not good enough, we're gonna have a lot of money to spend on the next best winger than Ronaldo. I was sad when Becks, Ruud, and Heinze left, because they were winners and had heart; Ronaldo only has his cocky attitude and inflated ego to get him through games. I have no problem with him leaving.

  15. let him go to real madrid..man utd have many fan to support man utd players..however,fergie have idealistic to cover ronaldo like him cover beckham..man utd did't lost ronaldo but man utd became a stronger team for next season..be a no1 supporter...

  16. i'm a man utd supporter..i think man utd management should sell C.ronaldo to R.madrid and cashed in the transfer money with the return of Robinho, sergio ramos and wesley sneijder....i think it is a worthy deal...sell a player...get 3 players as return (which may strengthen the club without going into the tansfer market....3 area..front, midfield and back)...mayb this will make R.madrid management think twice if really wan to make a deal...if the deal really go through..then i think it is a best deal for both party....

  17. giggs isn't the model of loyalty everyone cracks him up to be. try paolo maldini, one club since he was 16. giggs went to the best english team he could find and wasn't wanted by mainland european teams, much like any other british player other than the overrated beckham, maldini gave his life to the team that gave him a chance. let cristiano go. rooney might be upset his boyfriend is leaving, but hell get over it.

    From sodraggin07, on Mon 23 Jun 3:31AM
  18. Just sell him already but for the most cash possible plus schneider instead of robinho who is a great player but too individualistic n inconsistent in my opinion.scheider tho is more complete a player n more of a team player which afterall is wat United is about,THE TEAM.and with all this hoo ha going on about ronaldo,SAF please dont forget about your other gem in carlos teves eh,so sign him up permanently quick.
My prediction for next season w/o ronaldo:Nani will improve to greater heights n Rooney will finally explode with goals.(suspect he was feeling overshadowed by Ron)

From madbymdnite, on Mon 23 Jun 2:17AM
  19. United should let Ronaldo go because he has been royal to them? What a joke! They should keep him on the bench for the full 5 years, and play him in 10% of the time so he can't go anywhere else. That will teach him about royalty. Ryan Giggs is royalty. Ronaldo is disgraceful.
