Tue 22 Jul, 03:00 PM

Stockport have agreed a deal with League Two outfit Morecambe to sign midfielder Carl Baker in a deal worth up to £225,000.County had several previous bids for the 25-year-old, who scored 11 goals last season, turned down because they fell short of Morecambe's valuation.

However, a fee of £175,000, rising to £225,000 on performances, has now been agreed and a sell-on clause also included.

Morecambe vice-chairman Graham Hodgson said: "We have now agreed a fee for Carl with Stockport after turning down several bids which we didn't feel were acceptable.

"We are a club that never wants to stand in a player's way when the chance to progress his career is available but at the same time we have to consider the best interests of the club on every occasion which we did here.

"Carl was excellent for us last year and made the step up to the Football League well and we really do wish him well."
