Raul Refutes Fergie's Ron Claims

Tue 22 Jul, 03:09 PM

Real Madrid captain Raul has hit back at Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's claims that Cristiano Ronaldo would be making a big mistake if he joined the Spanish champions.

Real have made no secret of their desire to sign the Portugal star, who has repeatedly fanned the flames by refusing to commit to United and admitting a move to the Bernabeu is his dream.

Ferguson remains confident Ronaldo will be at Old Trafford next season and on Monday went so far as to claim the winger would be risking his career by moving to Real.

However, in a press conference on Tuesday, Raul retorted: "Madrid is the best thing that could happen to anyone.

"I have been here 14 years and I would not change it for anything."

The former Spain international also dismissed suggestions there would be dressing room unrest if Ronaldo joined on a lucrative deal.

"Any club would like to have Ronaldo. He's one of the best, one of the most tricky players in the world of football," said Raul.

"I think the good atmosphere would continue regardless of who comes in or what they earn. That unity can't be broken."

  2. Guys.. Messi plays a much better and more tactical game than Ron, but still Messi is still not taken for the best player in the world..This is boz Sir Alex nos how to market and valorize a player - Ron should really consider himself lucky that he has got a mentor like Sir Alex. Don't forget its Sir Alex who gave this lad his chance and IF Sir Alex wants he knows he can get another player in this marvellous team and make him the best on this planet. If Ron wanna go..let him go.. Man Utd is a much bigger team than that, we can do better without him either. N concerning the comments of Raul, its true, if Ron moves dere, it'd be to the advantage of Raul.. he'd be getting much more dan now.. who would refuse such an opportunity!!! %£$£&

  3. Why is there so much arrogance being shown by the EPL.All of a sudden every other league is on second rate, since 1999 and now how many premiership teams have won the champions league....3,in between it has been won by Spanish and Italian teams. How can Ronaldo going to Real Madrid be a step down, don't get me wrong I am not in favour of his disloyalty but if anyone thinks telling him going to Real madrid is a step down and will work as a deterrent they are fooling themselves.Messi and Kaka dont pay in the EPL so whats the fuss they way the media its treating Ronaldo's saga so OTT shows that EPL is not used to having major stars, remind of the last world footballer of the year from the EPL.Perspective please.

  6. Raul needs to have a really good look at the major signings that Real have made over the years;, Zidane, Figo, Carlos, Ronaldo (the one who likes he/she's!)Becks, the whinnging dutch man and a host of others who had already made their names and were two maybe three years away fom the pension farm. CR is too young for the old brigade; but what the heck, either way; UTD are the winners...keep him and we have the best player in the world for next season, lose him and they bank +/- £80million...not a bad position to be in

  8. SAF said it best, Madrid would be a step down. They can't even get past the first knock-out stage of the Champions League and the Spanish League has taken a step back in terms of quality over the past 2 seasons.
Ronaldo is best sticking to Utd where we can develop further and win more stuff. Then when he's maybe 26 or 27, make the move over to Spain which he seems to want. At least then he'll be mature enough to deal with the absurd media pressure over there.

  9. Agree completely with Lin, if Ronaldo doesn't settle in Spain in the same way that Beckham never really did, it will look like a hell of a lot of money wasted.

  16. Real Madrid only want Ronaldo now that the work has been done to make him what he is today...but look at David Beckham, he was never the same player once he left Man-Utd, the same would happen with Ronaldo...take heed Real Madrid, you've been warned.

From LIN H, on Tue 22 Jul 2:38PM
  17. Don't talk rubbish...Ronaldo can't go to a better team, he's already in the best team in the world, and he should be grateful that he was given the break...he needs to work out his contract....so don't make me laugh.

From LIN H, on Tue 22 Jul 2:33PM
  18. LOL!!! You'd love for Ronaldo to come to Real Madrid wouldn't you, you smarmy dego prick!

"I think the good atmosphere would continue regardless of who comes in or what they earn. That unity can't be broken."

You're only saying that because you have it written into your contract that no player can earn more than you at Real Madrid. Which means if Ronny moves there and gets paid £200,000 per week, you would automatically be paid the same amount. Dream on @#$%!
