Charlton striker Luke Varney is determined to prove his worth in the coming campaign after a disappointing first season at The Valley. The 25-year-old arrived at the club from Crewe in May 2007 and made 25 starts and 16 substitute appearances for the Addicks last season. But Varney admits he was far from satisfied with his performances.
"I didn't achieve what I wanted to achieve last year," Varney told the club's official website.
"I've got a lot more to show the fans, and especially the manager. I was surprised at the level of performances required week in, week out, and although I did show flashes of what I can do, I wasn't consistent enough.
"That's what I will be aiming for this year, to put it in on the pitch each and every week."
