Solberg And Mills Assist Britain's Rally Elite

Sun 26 Nov, 1:28 AM

Members of the MSA British Rally Elite training programme are ready to show their mettle on the world stage as the World Rally Championship comes to the UK for Wales Rally GB, Britain's biggest sporting event.

All six members of the MSA-backed scheme to develop Britain's top rally competitors to WRC-level ability will be in action over the three days of stage competition.

The participants in the Elite scheme and the entry level Academy went through the perfect preparation for the biggest home event of their season, with a scheme training day involving former world rally champions and current Subaru crew, Petter Solberg and Phil Mills. Also assisting the young protagonists was former world co-driving champion Robert Reid, as well as Subaru World Rally Team Rally Operations Director, Paul Howarth.

The top level instructors explained how best to prepare for WRC events, and made sure all the members were aware of the specific rules pertinent to WRC events. Solberg and Mills continued by explaining the characteristics and surfaces relevant to each Rally GB stage, with the help of some of their in-car footage from last year. Mills and Reid explained the importance of preparation for both event and recce, and used examples of their documentation from previous years to show just how much detail the best co-drivers in the world go into.

Meanwhile Paul Howarth offered advice on the importance of a tactical approach to events, setting achievable targets and goals, as well as outlining how WRC teams approach events and testing.
