Murray, now 27, began a second spell at Hibernian after being released by Norwich in January.
He said: "It's great to have agreed this new contract and I am really happy to be staying on at Hibernian."
Manager Mixu Paatelainen played in the same Hibs side as Murray for three years from 1998 to 2001 and is pleased to be keeping his former team-mate at the club.
Paatelainen said: "I am delighted that the new contract has been agreed with Ian.
"He's a great player and has performed really well since coming back to the club.
"Ian has a real determination to succeed and this allied to his great versatility will, I'm sure, see him play a key role for us."
