Manchester City have reportedly agreed a £19 million fee with CSKA Moscow for the transfer of Brazilian striker Jo.

The 21-year-old would become Mark Hughes's first signing since taking over the reins at Eastlands and the club's record signing, beating the £13 million City paid for Nicolas Anelka in 2002.

Initially targeted by former City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, Jo has been on City's radar for some time.

But a move was delayed due to the Premier League's strict new rules on third-party ownership.

City are now expected to officially unveil Jo on Monday.

CSKA president Yevgeny Giner said: "It's the right price for Jo. I think it would be wrong now not to let the player move to England.

"If Manchester City settle the issues regarding a visa, then the transfer will take place."

The tricky striker scored 30 goals in 53 appearances for CSKA since joining them from Brazilian outfit Corinthians in 2005 and has one international cap to his name.

  4. 19 million would be ok for an established player in one of the stronger leagues. As mentioned, this youngster only has 1 cap and plays for a team in a weak league; hard to justify that kinda price tag.

  5. What a signing I know Jo since 2005 and he is an incredible player, He is fast, powerful in air and ground and off coarse very young(21) and he truly deserves 19million pound.

  6. Wow, is Thaksin gonna become the next Abramovic?? CSKA must be soooo happy to sell Jo for that astronomical sum!!

  7. Wow, I've seen Jo play in the Uefa Cup many times and he has been outstanding. He is only 21 and has a great future ahead of him. But 19 million pounds is crazy!
I would rather buy bently for that sum around 12/13 million and then have about 5 million to splash on someone else. Or try to sign downing for 8.5 million pounds and then try to sign mountinho from sporting for 10-13 million pounds.
    - Manchester city should also try to sign bayern munich stars, lukas Podolski and Bastian Shveinsteiger although that would cost more like 25 million pounds.

But i dont think they should sign arshavin, he is spoiled and 2 great games for russia doesnt mean Barca and Chelsea or Arsenal should fight for his signature, although he is a decent player. His price tag is way to high, and a better striker would be pavlychenko who also was one of the stars for russia during euro 2008.

  8. This kid is great i watched him play in the under 20 world cup in canada. Last year, he stood out like pato in the team. Hes young has a good number of years to give to mancity..........podoski would go for 27 million.........

  9. 19 million? no, not 19 million. maybe around 13-16 million would be fine but not 19 million. 19 million is something you wuold pay for a world class striker like Lucas Podolski which is probably going to end up in the Prem next season. But for Jo, 13-16 million should be more than enough.
