Nottingham Forest have made a seven-figure bid for Dundee United captain Barry Robson, who has also attracted interest from Burnley. The League One side could be given permission to open talks with Robson on Wednesday.
United chairman Eddie Thompson admitted 29-year-old Robson could leave Tannadice to join Forest, however there are other clubs keen on the midfielder who could now step in.
Thompson told BBC Sport: "We have a seven-figure bid in for Barry from Notts Forest.
"The manager Craig Levein and I both have copies of the offer and will get together in the morning to go through it. We both want Barry to stay.
"We will do everything in our power to keep him, but sometimes these things are taken out of your hands."
Robson is known to be keen on joining a bigger club and taking his career to the next level, and it remains unclear whether Forest's status as a third-tier side in England would be appealing.
He could team up with former Celtic skipper Neil Lennon at the club managed by former Scotland defender Colin Calderwood.
Burnley, who are challenging for promotion to the Premiership, saw an offer for Robson turned down last week but could come back with a new bid following Forest's move.
Robson has had an outstanding season with United, scoring 12 goals from midfield including seven in his last five games.
