Harry Redknapp is ready to recommend Portsmouth goalkeeper David James and right-back Glen Johnson to Fabio Capello for international service. He is sure, however, the new England boss will see the pair's credentials for himself when Pompey face Manchester United on Wednesday.
And Pompey manager Redknapp insists that James, who turns 38 in August, is capable of playing for club and country well into his forties - just as Dino Zoff did for Capello's Italian countrymen.
James rolled back the years again with a stunning performance to keep Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Saturday against Plymouth.
Johnson had one of his poorest games in that fourth round tie - under the gaze of one of Capello's assistants in the stands.
But Redknapp said: "Hopefully, the next time they see him he'll really show just what he can do.
"It's a big test for him but he strong, quick, good in the air - everything a top player needs.
"And 'Jamo' is fantastic - still showing why I think nobody really comes near him as the best in this country."
Chelsea's Avram Grant has revealed that Capello has yet to make contact with him since taking charge but Redknapp said: "I met Capello at Reading the other week when I was watching their game against Tottenham. Alex Ferguson was there, too.
"I didn't put forward any players but if he asks me I'd tell him that if I was England manager I'd pick James.
"He'll play until he is 40-odd. He makes great saves and he's so fit and works so hard in training that his age doesn't matter, but Capello would know that because of Dino Zoff."
On Wednesday's Premier League trip to Old Trafford, James said: "These are results that don't often happen but they do from time to time and I suppose it's a bit of role reversal for us now after the Plymouth cup game.
"But having won there yourself you know it is possible and, of course, Harry has won there as a manager.
"It is a real test, though. For a start they have the best manager in Premiership history and it seems as if every time United lose a superstar whom they apparently can't do without, they just go and replace him with another superstar.
"Sir Alex Ferguson has got to be up there as one of the best-ever managers. He keeps bringing in new star players and, although granted he has the money to do it, he never wastes it.
"He brought in Ronaldo and it wasn't long before suddenly he looked a world beater.
"He does his solo stuff, yes, but it is amazing how he fits back into the system. We all need luck but there's no luck about what he does.
"The goals he scores and the way he does it are amazing. I'm not talking about the exact square-inch but when he hits a ball I think you can assume he knows almost exactly where it is going nine times out of 10. It is no accident.
"And it's no secret how he scores goals the way he does. He practices a lot - and he's good. Simple as that.
"United are a team of stars but they all pull their weight, too, and that's almost certainly the secret of their success."
