Ambitious 2.Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim beat Bundesliga outfit Hansa Rostock to reach the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal.Hoffenheim, backed by a local millionaire and who spent a league-record 7million euros on striker Eduardo last year, defeated Rostock 2-1 in the last 16.
Per Nilsson put hosts Hoffenheim ahead before Enrico Kern levelled matters early in the second half.
However, an unfortunate own goal from Junior Alves Orestes sent Rostock crashing out.
Hoffenheim are joined in the last eight by both Munich clubs.
Bayern Munich saw off third division Wuppertal 5-2, with Miroslav Klose on target twice for the Bavarians.
Further goals from Daniel van Buyten, Luca Toni and Hamit Altintop eased Bayern into the next round at the expense of battling Wuppertal, who drew level twice before the visitors pulled clear.
1860 Munich produced a remarkable fightback to beat Alemannia Aachen 3-2.
The Lions were 2-0 with eight minutes remaining but goals from Danny Schwarz, Mustafa Kucukovic and Fabian Johnson saw 1860 into the last eight.
Borussia Dortmund also progressed after seeing off Werder Bremen 2-1 in an all-Bundesliga clash at the Westfalen Stadium.
Giovanni Federico gave the home side the lead after 19 minutes and the tie looked safe when Diego Klimowicz netted a second 10 minutes from time.
Diego brought Bremen back into the game two minutes later from the penalty spot and had the chance to level matters with another spot-kick on 85 minutes.
This time, however, Dortmund goalkeeper Marc Ziegler guessed right and saved the Brazilian's effort to ensure the Westphalians went through.
