Walsall players have been promised an intensive introduction to their new training ground when pre-season begins on Wednesday.The Essington base will be officially opened on Tuesday before the first-team squad report back for the training to start.

Physiotherapist Jon Whitney said: "To have our own base is a massive boost.

"The players report back on Wednesday and they will be undertaking an intensive fitness programme in the coming weeks to ensure they are ready for the start of the new season."
