NO!! Hamilton misses out and this is a disaster - WEBBER FASTEST!! THEN KOVALAINEN FASTER!!! Pole for Heikki Kovalainen! And Lewis Hamilton just fourth.
0' Last and only chance for Lewis Hamilton - he is absolutely flying but he needs to keep it tidy - Raikkonen is the man to beat now...
1' Kubica comes out of his car... he has a problem and will start 10th.
2' It's 1-Kovalainen, 2-Raikkonen, 3-Alonso, 4-Heidfeld, 5-Massa, 6-Webber at the moment - and Lewis Hamilton comes IN to the pits! He's just wasted a lap there.
3' Heikki Kovalainen goes quicker than Raikkonen by three tenths. The pressure really on Hamilton now.
4' HAMILTON GOES OFF!! He was on a lightning lap but just overcooked it - he'll just try another hot lap and has to get it absolutely right this time.
4' First man across the line is Raikkonen - 1:22.519.
6' Lewis Hamilton pulls out of the pits with a lovely new set of soft tyres. Raikkonen is also on an out lap.
8' No cars on track in the first two minutes of this 10-minute mini-session. You only get a maximum of two goes at this...
Q3 The final session is under way! This is where things get really interesting.
0'
Out comes the chequered flag... A thrilling finish as Vettel, Alonso, Glock, Piquet and Massa all post improved times. It's bad news for David Coulthard, who is an unlucky 11th. Timo Glock, Sebastien Bourdais, Jarno Trulli and Kazuki Nakajima are also goners. Q3 coming up.
1' Both Ferraris have to go out again to make sure of their place in Q3. Massa is just seventh and could easily drop...
2' Bourdais, Glock, Coulthard, Trulli and Nakajima are in the red with three minutes to go. They will have one more chance to save their bacon.
4' Much better from Robert Kubica - he goes third. And Heidfeld is fourth. Encouraging signs for BMW after a tough race in France.
5' Five minutes left - the men in peril: 11-Coulthard, 12-Trulli, 13-Nakajima, 14-Heidfeld, 15-Kubica.
6' 1:19.597 Kovalainen, 1:19.537 Hamilton! The Briton leads the way and this looks very encouraging for McLaren. That will do it for those two, but they may fancy honing their technique with a couple of "free" laps.
8' Raikkonen goes quickest with a 1:20.037, Alonso second.
9' Rosberg stayed in the pits because of a suspension problem - not because he couldn't be bothered. He said the car was jumping all over the place through the corners.
12' Nobody out on track yet. That rain is still clearing and these teams are looking to leave it as late as possible.
Q2 Second session under way - another five men to fall over the next quarter of an hour.
-
Jenson Button DOES NOT MAKE IT! The Honda man is out, as is his team-mate Rubens Barrichello. The other men to fall - Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella. Coulthard clings on by the skin of his teeth.
0' Barrichello crosses the line with four seconds to spare - meanwhile Bourdais goes sixth!! Why on earth didn't Rosberg have a go?
1' Most of the threatened drivers have gone out but Nico Rosberg and Williams can't be bothered. He is OUT.
2' Nobody is out on track, but surely Jenson Button will just have to take a punt. He has nothing to lose. Two minutes left.
3' Nakajima runs wide in the wet - but he looks safe in 15th. The wind is up to 9.0m/s, howling in from the south-west. That's about 20mph.
5' Coulthard is up to 13th as rain starts to fall around Silverstone - just in the nick of time for the Red Bull man. The umbrellas are out and there may well be no improvement. Barrichello, Rosberg, Button, Sutil and Fisichella are the seemingly condemned men.
6' Nick Heidfeld runs wide over the grass. No harm done, but his tyres look a little green.
7' Bourdais climbs to 11th, which relegates David Coulthard into 16th. He will not want to go out in Q1 on his final appearance at a British GP.
9' Button stays 16th - he could have a problem. Bourdais, Sutil, Fisichella, Button and Rosberg are the men in red as things stand.
11' Heikki Kovalainen clocks 1:19.957 to go quickest. Jenson Button is presently 16th and in danger, but he has plenty of time to go better.
12' Kimi Raikkonen goes second behind Hamilton, Massa third. McLaren appear to have a slight edge around here but it should be a brilliant qualifying session.
14' 1:20.288 for Hamilton on his second hot lap. He is quickest so far. That will almost certainly be good enough to make Q2 - remember the bottom five drivers are eliminated.
17' Kazuki Nakajima is the first man to clock a lap - 1:22.272. Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen immediately go better.
Q1 Q1 is under way - 20 minutes. It is a very blowy day in Northamptonshire - a 7.5m/s wind and rain on the way. The drivers will try to get a lap in as quickly as possible.
