The Acqua & Sapone rider edged fellow Italian Davide Rebellin (Miche Guerciotti) in the sprint to the line at the end of the 183.7km race in Cesenatico.

Ireland's Daniel Martin (Garmin-Cervelo) was also involved in the dash to the line to take third place.

Taborre was part of a 15-rider breakaway that formed on the last climb, and after being lined up by team-mates Alessandro Donati and Alessandro Proni he powered to his second win of the year, and his second victory in the memorial race.

The race is held every year to honour the memory of Pantani, the former Tour de France and Giro d'Italia winner, who died from cocaine poisoning in 2004.
