Fiorentina have confirmed they will appeal against the three-match ban handed to midfielder Massimo Gobbi for a high elbow while playing against Bayern Munich last month.
The 29-year-old was sent off for a foul on Bayern winger Arjen Robben 73 minutes into the Champions League last-16 tie at the Allianz Arena on February 17.
Bayern striker Miroslav Klose scored a controversial 89th minute winner against Fiorentina's 10 men to give Bayern a 2-1 lead heading into the second leg.
"UEFA has decided to punish Massimo Gobbi with a three-match ban and Fiorentina has decided to appeal," read a statement on the club's website.
If the appeal fails then the former AC Milan youth player will miss the home leg and both quarter-final games, if the Tuscan side progress.
