Franco on form as Baryla goes ballistic
Paraguayan veteran Carlos Franco (pictured) shot a second-round 66 to keep alive his hopes of winning a 2011 Tour card, but it was Chris Baryla who lit up Q-school with a stunning 61 to take the lead in the six-round tournament.
Canadian Baryla fired 11 birdies at Orange County's Crooked Cat Course in California to sit at 10 under par and a shot ahead of Ben Martin.
US veteran Billy Mayfair shot a second successive 69 to remain in the hunt, while Jarrod Lyle is alongside him in a tie for 13th at three under par.
England's Greg Owen went some way to repair the damage from his opening 76 with a tidy 69 in the second round, but from his tie for 75th has plenty more work to do if he is to grab one of the 25 cards available.
