Norway's Tarjei Boe romped past Germany’s Michael Greis to bring home mixed relay gold for his country at the Biathlon World Championships in Russia.
The 22-year-old was on Norway’s final leg and helped the team of Boe, Ole Einar Björndalen, Tora Berger and Ann Kristin Flatland claim the title in 1:14:22.5 hours in Khanty Mansiyak.
Despite Greis going into the prone shooting with a slender 3.1 second lead, Boe had pulled away by the standing stage and extended his lead until the finish.
Germany were forced to settle for silver, 22.9 seconds behind with France claiming bronze 1:16.7 minutes behind the Norwegians.
Sweden just missed out on a medal in fourth while Italy and Russia were fifth and sixth respectively in the opening competition in these Russian Championships, with all eyes on this event with the decision to include it in Sochi 2014 still pending.
