Australian Samantha Stosur reached her first Grand Slam final when she battered Jelena Jankovic 6-1 6-2 at the French Open.

The seventh seed, who will be bidding to become the first Australian to win a Grand Slam since Evonne Goolagong-Cawley triumphed at Wimbledon in 1980, will play Francesca Schiavone in Saturday's final after Elena Dementieva retired hurt having lost the first set in their clash.

"I'm very pleased and so happy I'll have an even better memory than last year," said the 26-year-old who lost to eventual champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the 2009 semis.

"I feel ready to go and win the title, Saturday would be as good a day as any to win it."

The Australian, who was kept from the court for almost 12 months in 2007 and 2008 after contracting Lyme Disease, showed no signs of exhaustion after back-to-back three set wins over four-times champion Justine Henin and world number one Serena Williams as she made the better start to the match.

And sure enough Stosur made the early breakthrough, snatching the first break in just the fourth game after a slack game from Jankovic.

The first two break points went begging for Stosur but she grabbed the initiative on the third attempt, drilling a much-improved backhand down the line before sealing it with an inside out forehand winner across court.

Stosur emphatically held to love to consolidate before breaking again in the very next game, when Jankovic slapped a forehand long of the baseline.

Any hope Jankovic may have had of Stosur getting nervous were quickly dispelled by the Australian as threw two aces into the game as she served out the set in just 24 minutes.

Jankovic put up a bit of resistance early in the second set as she broke in the second game with a forehand passing shot winner down the line after Stosur had dumped a double fault into the net.

But the Australian bounced back immediately, breaking back straight away when Jankovic sent a tame forehand long yet again.

And from there on it was all one-way traffic with Stosur breaking again in the fifth and seventh games, both with forehand winners, before serving out the match to 15 and booking her place in the final, fittingly, with a cross court forehand winner.

Jankovic was at a loss to explain her lack of form.

"I wasn't even 20 per cent of my ability, so that shows," she said. "I felt heavy on my feet and I didn't really move out there. That resulted in a negative way on every shot, because especially on the return I didn't have a good reaction.

"And then when I got into some of the points, when I had chances, I made bad mistakes. It wasn't me. It wasn't my game out there. She was the better player today.

"I'm angry. It's not easy not to lose like this, but it's the way the game goes. I just have to stay positive, and I will have another chance."
