Juergen Roelandts (Lotto-Belisol) won a wet final stage of the Tour of Luxembourg as Radioshack's Jakob Fuglsang took the overall victory.

Due to the heavy rain, organisers decided to finalise the General Classification standings 47km before the end of the fourth and final stage between Mersch and the old town of Luxembourg City.

At that stage there were still seven laps left of the circuit and Roelandts finally took the stage victory ahead of a small peloton that was led in by Britain's Ben Swift.

The overall race was decided the previous day though when Fuglsang's second place finish in the queen stage ultimately proved enough to take the win from Wout Poels (Vacansoleil) and team-mate Frank Schleck.

Danish rider Fuglsang admitted he was relieved that the organisers decided to conclude the GC race early.

"I think the organisers made the right decision by ending the GC battle at that point. There was a real risk of crashes and everyone was nervous to stay upright.

“Luxembourg is my second home so to win the national tour of Luxembourg is important to the team but also to me.

“Especially after the difficult spring I had with bad luck and injuries.  It’s nice to make a comeback like this.  It was the right decision for me to not start the Giro d’Italia and give my knee more time to heal. Now I have this victory and I am very, very happy.  The team was riding very strong and I have to thank them.”
