Kittel claims Dunkirk opener
Marcel Kittel of Germany won his second stage of the season after sprinting to victory on day one of the 57th edition of the Four Days of Dunkirk.
The Skil-Shimano rider timed his run to the finish perfectly to reach the end of the 180km route narrowly ahead of Denis Galimzyanov of Katusha and Giacomo Nizzolo of Leopard-Trek and take the yellow jersey.
An early solo break from Stefano Borchi was reeled in with 16km to go, with the peloton's chase orchestrated by the three teams whose riders eventually claimed the podium places.
Despite the name, there are five stages over five days in the event, with Thursday's second stage taking the riders from Douai to Iwuy.
