Neuner leads Germany to win
Double Olympic champion Magdalena Neuner inspired Germany to dominant IBU biathlon World Cup relay victory in Presque Isle, USA.
Neuner, who took last year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver by storm, grabbing two gold medals, teamed up with Kathrin Hitzer, Alexander Wolf and Daniel Bohm to storm to gold in Maine.
It’s Germany’s second gold of the seventh leg of the IBU World Cup circuit after Arnd Peiffer sealed individual glory on Friday and it takes them to third in the overall relay rankings.
Second place went to the French quartet of Marie Laure Brunet, Sophie Boilley, Vincent Jay and Alexis Boeuf, who crossed the line 27.9 points off the pace ensuring they sit atop of the overall rankings on 102 points.
Sweden, who are now in second place with 98 points, could only finish in sixth place on Saturday with a team that did not include Helena Ekholm, who was victorious in the women’s individual event on Friday.
And the Russian foursome of Svetlana Sleptsova, Natalia Guseva, Ivan Tcherezov and Maxim Tchoudov, thanks to their third-place finish in Presque Isle, are now up to fourth overall.
