Petukhov led the final heat from start to finish, clocking 2:32.7 minutes as he edged out Ola Vigen Hattestad by 1.4 seconds in a dramatic sprint finish.

His Norwegian teammate Anders Gloeersen missed out on silver by the narrowest of margins, coming home just 0.1 behind Hattestad to complete the podium in third place.

Hattestad, despite missing out on victory, stays top of the overall World Cup standings with 344 points while Sweden’s Emil Joensson is second and Petukhov is third.

In the women’s race, Vesna Fabjan led a Slovenian 1-2, crossing the line in 2:54.3 minutes to clinch her second win of the season.

Teammate Katja Visnar finished 0.7 seconds off the pace while World Cup overall leader Justyna Kowalczyk was also 0.7 seconds behind Fabjan but came third in a photo finish.
