Martin beats out Brits in Beijing TT
Recently crowned world champion Tony Martin showed his time-trial class again by winning the opening stage of the Tour of Beijing.
The German HTC-Highroad rider covered the 11.3km course from the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium to the Water Cube Olympic swimming venue in a time of 13 minutes 33 seconds, leaving him 17s ahead of Scotland's David Millar.
Millar's effort came on a superb day for British riders who took places two to five in the standings.
The Tour of Beijing is taking place for the first time and is the penultimate race on the UCI World Tour which will then finish with the Giro di Lombardia on October 15.
The race's second stage will again see the riders start at the Bird's Nest before making the 137km trek to Men Tou Gou.
The five-stage race runs until Sunday.
