The 37-year-old all-rounder took 55 wickets and scored 365 runs in the last campaign to help lead his county to the title.

Having been appointed as captain in 2009, the fast-bowling all-rounder will lead the team in what will be his 21st campaign at the Club.

"I am proud to be the captain of this great club and I look forward to leading this group of talented players into what we hope will be another exciting year," said Chapple.

Cricket Director, Mike Watkinson, said: "Glen leads by example and has inspired the team through his leadership and performance culminating in 2011 being a historic year for the Club. He is the ideal man to Captain the Club in 2012 as we look to build on our recent success."

Lancashire, under the stewardship of former England coach Peter Moores, secured their first outright Championship title for 77 years on the final day of last season.

Head Coach, Moores, added: "Glen is an outstanding Captain and we have forged a fantastic working relationship which I am looking forward to continuing over the coming year.

"His captaincy – tactically - and his ability to deal with people, have been key factors in our development over the last few seasons," he added.

"In my opinion his greatest strength is he trusts and respects his players, which gives confidence to everyone in the set-up."
