David Murdoch gave a candid self-assessment of his performance as the Scottish skip was outwitted by arch-rival Jiri Snitil at the European Curling Championship in Moscow.

The three-times European champion was delighted after beating Norway 8-7 but Czech Republic skip Snitil, who makes a habit of beating the two-time Olympian in major events, emerged an 8-4 winner with an end to spare as Scotland dropped in the overall standings with three wins and two defeats from five matches.

"There was one skip that was making everything and another skip, me, that just couldn't finish it off. That was the tale of the game," he said.

"It's disappointing after a big win over Sweden where the pressure was really on us."

Scottish women's skip Eve Muirhead enjoyed her best day so far as her rink beat Germany 7-5 and Italy 5-4, moving to joint third in the overall standings with four wins from six.

"It's good for us to go right down to the last stone of the last end because it could happen in any of the games," she said, after the narrow win over Italy.

"I think we couldn't have asked for more today. We came looking for two wins and we got them, we need more days like this."
