Juventus edged out Fiorentina 2-1 at the Artemio Franchi to climb into fourth spot in the Serie A table.
The Bianconeri moved above Palermo, albeit having played a game more than their Champions League rivals, courtesy of goals from Diego and substitute Fabio Grosso.
The Brazilian (pictured) gave Juve the lead in only the second minute after Antonio Candreva slipped through an incisive pass which Diego latched on to before sliding a left-footed shot beyond Sebastien Frey.
The play became increasingly fragmented as both sides battled to gain the ascendancy in midfield but, as substitutes were thrown on by both managers, Grosso made the required impact.
The defender replaced Paolo De Ceglie at the break, and proceeded to restore the visitors' advantage with a clinical finish as Frey was beaten for a second time.
Juventus move to within seven points of Roma, who entertain Milan at the Stadio Olimpico as the battle for fourth spot continues to intensify in Serie A.
