Petter Northug brought the curtain down on the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo by storming to 50km men's mass start gold.
The two-week competition in Norway came to a fitting end as the 25-year-old double Olympic champion claimed his third gold on home turf and his fifth medal of the championships.
The Norwegian romped to the title in two hours eight minutes 9.0 seconds, 1.7 seconds ahead of Russia's Maxim Vylegzhanin who was forced to settle for silver, just as he did in Liberec two years ago.
Bronze went to Northug's compatriot Tord Asle Gjerdalen after he crossed the line in 2:08:15.3, pipping fellow Norwegian Sjur Roethe to the podium by 1.7 seconds.
Meanwhile, Great Britain's Andrew Musgrave completed the 50km course in 2:23:54.5 to finish 59th while compatriot Simon James Platt was 76th.
