Broady wins in Birmingham
Britain's Naomi Broady progressed to the second round of the AEGON Classic in Edgbaston after beating France's Caroline Garcia.
World number 231 Broady beat world number 150 Garcia 6-2 6-7 6-4 to set up a second-round clash against China's Peng Shuai.
Should 21-year-old Broady pull off an unlikely victory against the world number 20 she would meet rising British star Heather Watson in the third round, should Watson get past Japan's Misaki Doi in her second round match.
Broady had already enjoyed a boost on Tuesday after she was named as one of five British women to be granted wildcards to play at Wimbledon later this month.
And on a day of upsets in Birmingham, top seed Kaia Kanepi of Estonia crashed out to Russia's Arina Rodionova 6-4 6-2, while fifth-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy lost 6-7(2) 7-6(4) 7-5 to Croatia's Mirjana Lucic in a gritty tussle that could have gone either way.
