Twice Olympic gold medallist Emil Hegle Svendsen anchored Norway to team relay gold at the IBU World Championships in Germany.
The French team started brightest in Ruhpolding and led after the first leg as Norwegian legend Ole Einar Bjørndalen had failed to hand his quartet the ideal start but his teammates – most notably Tarjei Bo – helped turn it around.
The win means Svendsen’s eighth World Championship relay ended with a sixth gold while the early pace setters France were forced to settle for silver.
Norway finished in a time of 1:17:26.8hours for their 4x7.5km efforts, nearly 30 seconds ahead of France in second with home favourites Germany claiming the bronze, 53 seconds shy of the gold-medallists while Italy and Austria completed the top five.
