Bundesliga - Schalke fight to keep Neuer
Schalke are preparing to offer goalkeeper Manuel Neuer a blockbuster contract to keep him out of the clutches of a host of European clubs when the winter transfer window opens.
The Miners are so keen to keep the 24-year-old German international at the Veltins-Arena that they are willing to hand over €5million per season, a huge increase on his current €2million-a-year deal.
After Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Benfica in Portugal, Schalke have qualified for the Champions League knock-out stages at the top of their group for the first time in their history.
However, with the cash-strapped club currently languishing in 15th-place in the Bundesliga - and Champions League football far from a certainty for Schalke next season - Neuer has been linked with potential big-money moves to Bayern Munich or Manchester United.
Neuer - who has 15 caps for the German national team - remains tight-lipped on the matter, though, saying "so far I've had no concrete offers from Schalke, or from any other club."
