Kuboya posted a seven-under-par 65, including seven birdies, as he opened up the one-shot cushion over Thailand's Atiwit Janewattananond.

"I like this golf course as it really suits my game," the Japanese player said. "Although the winds were picking up mid-way through my round, I still putted really well nad I believed that gave me the confidence to do so well today."

Atiwit, who made history in February when he became the youngest player to make the cut at the Asian Tour season-opener at 14 years and 71 days old, carded a six-under par 66.

"I feel that I'm not hitting the ball long enough," said the Thai player turned professional last month at the Kings Cup.

"As such I don't plan to go on the offensive and attack the pins as some of these shots may cost me dearly. I hope to continue what I've done today and hopefully it'll be another good round tomorrow."

Bangladesh's Siddikur and defending champion Marcus Both of Australia are tied for third, a further shot back after rounds of 67.
