Cardiff have had their winding-up order adjourned for 28 days by the High Court in London.
The Coca-Cola Championship club were facing their second order over an unpaid tax bill of around £2.7million to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
City had been in discussions with HMRC over the debt but a compromise between the two parties could not be reached.
However, the High Court has given the club more time to resolve the issue.
The Bluebirds, who currently lie fourth in the table, could face administration and a 10-point deduction should a winding-up order be made.
