Wust wins in Hamar
Dutch skater Ireen Wust cut into Christine Nesbitt’s lead at the top of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup standings with the narrowest of victories in the women’s 1500m in Hamar.
Wurst edged out the Canadian Nesbitt by just four hundredths of a second to take the win in a time of 1:56.99minutes while Marrit Leenstra was third.
That leaves Nesbitt on top of the standings on 360 points with Wust just ten behind on 350 while Leenstra is a long way back in third on 201.
In the men’s 5000m it was Norway’s Sverre Lunde Pedersen who stormed to victory to the delight of his home fans with a dominant performance.
Pedersen came home in a time of 6:29.02minutes, a full seven seconds clear of his nearest rival Dmitry Babenko from Kazakhstan while Korea’s Seung-Hoon Lee was third.
