Davies: We must take our chances

Captain Kevin Davies believes Bolton must be more clinical in front of goal following their defeat at Newcastle on Monday.

Struggling Wanderers performed well for periods against the Magpies but were unable to take the chances that came their way and eventually lost 2-0 thanks to strikes in the final 20 minutes from Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse.

Striker Davies, who was back in the starting line-up for the first time since February, regards the entire match as an opportunity missed in Bolton's ongoing battle for survival and while he is taking some positives from the game, he also feels it is vital the team demonstrate greater potency up front in their remaining six fixtures.

"We need to get a bit more ruthless," said Davies, quoted in The Bolton News. "Their goalkeeper made two excellent saves, and when Martin (Petrov) put one great ball across the box, neither I nor Darren Pratley could get our toe to it.

"It's difficult to take, but we have to try to gain some positives because for 75 minutes we were well in the game and unfortunate not to be in the lead."
